“We couldn’t have planned a better trip, and it was all thanks to YOC.”
For many families a typical summer is packed with navigating busy schedules filled with camps, vacations, and family time. This past summer Michael and Felicia Janecek planned a unique family vacation, a road trip in which the couple mapped a 12-day adventure across California to treat their 10-year-old son and golf enthusiast, Essa, to play golf at Youth on Course facilities. That strategy proved to be one that made the trip far more budget-friendly.
“We thought it was going to be expensive and honestly we were worried about it. Having Youth on Course was like a pressure valve release for our family. It meant alot to know this program was there for us and we could play a lot and it would be affordable,” says Felicia.
The family spent a lot of time planning the trip together and plotting which YOC courses they’d be able to play based on their route. They were thrilled to see the number of available options.
“We were on the YOC course map for hours a day leading up to the trip, plotting our route and hitting every purple icon. Once we were on the road, we would find the course we were going to play the next morning online and prepare for our round together. We’d learn about the course and build a strategy for how to play the course. It’s something that I love for Essa, just the thought process that goes into every round and developing skills that I know he’ll carry into his future that will be beneficial on so many levels,” says Michael.
A few of the courses the Janecek family was able to play included Sea Pines Golf Course, The Links at Bodega Harbor, The Hay in Pebble Beach (twice in a row!), and Emerald Isle Golf Course. Essa’s favorite, though, was Pacific Grove Golf Links.
“My favorite hole was 11 at PG Golf Links. Having the ocean on one side of me the whole time was really cool!”
The Janecek family is excited that they can also plan family trips outside the state of California, as Youth on Course rounds are available at nearly 2,000 golf courses around North America. Opportunities for affordable family fun on vacation are made possible through Youth on Course!
