For Youth on Course alum Jack Jaffe, the number five means more than just a price tag.
"It's the first thing I think of when I think about Youth on Course," he said. "Five-dollar rounds."Growing up in the Bay Area, Jack spent countless afternoons on the course thanks to the access that his Youth on Course membership provided. What started as an opportunity to play more golf became a springboard for lifelong friendships, personal growth, educational opportunities, and eventually, a desire to give back.
The ability to play for just $5 a round allowed him to tee it up regularly at courses like Palo Alto Municipal Golf Course and Crystal Springs Golf Course, building his game alongside a community of fellow junior golfers.
"Being able to play often without worrying about the cost made a huge difference," Jack said.
In 2015, Jack also received a Youth on Course Scholarship, helping him attend Santa Clara University, where he studied economics.
Today, Jack is helping create those same opportunities for the next generation.
"For a lot of us, Youth on Course opened doors that wouldn't have been available otherwise," he said. "Giving back is a way to make sure future members have those same opportunities."
Giving back isn't new for Jack. In high school, he started a Recycled Golf Gear Drive, turning donated clubs into funds that supported Youth on Course. Then, in 2020, he completed the 100 Hole Hike, walking more than 27 miles and raising $3,405, enough to provide more than 480 rounds for young golfers.
When asked why alumni should give back, his answer was simple: "It's important to give back because so many of us benefited from Youth on Course."
