Tyler Ashman- Alumni Spotlight

From the moment he swung his first golf club at just three years old to recently earning conditional status on the PGA TOUR Americas, Tyler Ashman's journey is a testament to passion, persistence, and the power of opportunity. A proud Youth on Course alum and Chico State graduate, Tyler proves that when barriers are lifted, talent rises.

Tyler’s love for golf was sparked early, but it wasn’t until 7th grade that he began playing competitively. Like many young golfers, Tyler faced the challenge of accessing the game consistently without the financial resources that often come with a country club membership.

“I didn’t belong to a country club as a junior, so being able to go out and play different courses for $5 through Youth on Course allowed me to get all the practice I needed,” he says. “It also let me spend time on the course with my dad, without breaking the bank.”

For more than five years as a member and over 250 Youth on Course rounds played, Tyler did more than practice, he built a foundation. Each round gave him the chance to sharpen his game, grow his confidence, and fall in love with golf in a way that would shape his future for years to come.

Tyler went on to play collegiate golf at Chico State, where he earned a degree in Business Management. His college career was marked by excellence, consistency, and a drive to compete at the highest level. A two-time GCAA All-West Region and All-CCAA selection (2022–23, 2023–24), he quickly established himself as one of the top players in the West. But the highlight of his college experience wasn’t just the competition.

“My favorite part wasn’t just the tournaments or practices. It was the time spent and bonds formed with my teammates. From practicing everyday together, to traveling to tournaments, to team hangouts, we did everything together. While yes, the golf side of college golf is/was unforgettable. Being able to spend everyday with your friends while doing something you are all so passionate about, makes the college golf experience that much more meaningful.

Those years were about more than just golf, they helped him grow as a leader, a teammate, and a person. Now pursuing a master’s degree in Business, Tyler is continuing to invest in both his personal and professional development.

Currently based on California’s Central Coast, Tyler is balancing part-time work at a golf course with his pursuit of professional golf and his hard work is paying off. He recently achieved a major milestone by earning conditional status on the PGA TOUR Americas, bringing him one step closer to the highest level of the sport.

“My ultimate goal is to play on the PGA TOUR,” he says. “But more than anything, I want to live a happy and successful life and golf will always be a part of that.”

Whether it’s competing on tour, working within the golf industry, or simply giving back to the game that gave him so much, Tyler is committed to a future that keeps him close to the fairways. Reflecting on his journey, Tyler credits Youth on Course as a key part of his success.

“I wouldn’t be where I am today without Youth on Course.”

We couldn’t be prouder to cheer Tyler on as he continues chasing his dreams. We’ll be rooting for him, every step of the way!
