On Sunday, September 20, Youth on Course joined Private School Village (PSV) for its 7th Annual Back-to-School Picnic & Community Fair at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, bringing together more than 2,500 Black and Brown K–12 school families to celebrate the start of a new school year.

The annual event is one of Southern California’s largest gatherings of Black and Brown private school families, connecting students, parents, educators, school leaders, and community organizations for an afternoon of family activities, resources, and connection.

From the School Vendor Village and Health Village to the Kid Zone, Sports Zone, and Main Stage entertainment, the event offered something for families of all ages. Youth on Course was proud to be part of the community, alongside SCGA Junior, and Dryvebox.

“Belonging doesn’t happen only inside the classroom. It’s also built on golf courses, playing fields, stages and everywhere young people have the opportunity to discover something new alongside peers who share their experiences. We are thrilled to be working with Youth on Course to expand access to golf while creating another space for students and families to connect across schools. That combination of access, exposure and community is exactly what PSV is about.”

“We’re grateful to PSV for creating a space where families can connect, discover new opportunities, and build community. It was an absolute joy seeing the smiles of so many kids swinging a club for the first time and we look forward to creating more opportunities for PSV students and families to play golf together”, said Michael Lowe, Head of Impact at Youth on Course.

The event marked the first collaboration between Youth on Course and Private School Village, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that works with educational leaders and community partners to support and empower Black and Brown families across its network of private and independent schools.

Looking ahead, the partnership will continue through family programming, including upcoming PSV family nights at Topgolf. Starting in Los Angeles, these opportunities have the potential to connect even more families with Youth on Course and expand to PSV communities in Northern California, Philadelphia, and Charlotte.
