Quinn's Brigade

The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am has raised millions of dollars for charity since founder Bing Crosby moved his tournament to the Monterey Peninsula in 1947.

In the spirit of the Crosby, 2017 NCGA President Pat Quinn is doing his own part in giving back.

By virtue of his role as NCGA President, Quinn will be among the amateurs teeing off in the 2017 AT&T Pro-Am. The longtime Youth on Course Board member is taking his appearance further though in using the occasion to raise money for Youth on Course—the nationally acclaimed, non-profit that provides youth with access to life-changing opportunities through golf.

And that’s where Quinn's Brigade comes in.

As part of his AT&T Pro-Am appearance, Quinn is taking pledges (remember Walk-a-Thons?) with all of the proceeds benefitting Youth on Course. The idea for Quinn’s Brigade was hatched by Quinn and lifelong friend Bill Baron.

“We just talked about how it would be a great way to help raise funds for Youth on Course,” Quinn said.

The big day will be Saturday, February 11 when Quinn is expected to play his third round at Pebble Beach Golf Links

The day’s festivities will include breakfast and beverages at Porter’s in the Forest at Poppy Hills. Then, Brigade members can take a shuttle to watch Quinn play. Afterwards, it’s back to Porter’s for cocktails and a scrumptious dinner served by award-winning chef Johnny De Vivo.

Even the Monterey Peninsula Foundation, which runs the AT&T Pro-Am, has embraced the Brigade. Foundation CEO Steve John has donated tickets for Brigade members to attend Saturday’s round.

The original goal of Quinn’s Brigade was to raise upwards of $100,000 in chunks of $5,000. By the New Year it was already closing in on $230,000! The largely tax deductible donation can be made by check or credit card, with all proceeds benefitting Youth on Course. After you make your donation you’ll receive a receipt via email and Youth on Course will also mail you a tax-deduction receipt.

As for Quinn’s passion for Youth on Course, it’s now on 10-years plus. And it only keeps growing.

“Youth on Course represents so many good things with golf,” Quinn said. “It’s been great to see it evolve. It’s been nothing short of miraculous. It’s been very gratifying.”
