Youth on Course Headquarters is based out of Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach, California – home of the Northern California Golf Association.

About Adam

Adam has been with Youth on Course since its inception in 2006.

He is often communicating or meeting in-person with donors, foundations, corporations, and clubs in an effort to show the impact their contributions have on our participants. The sustainability and expansion of Youth on Course is the prime focus of Adam’s work.

Adam attended Clemson University, earning BA’s in Political Science and Communications. He completed his Masters in Non-Profit Administration from the University of Notre Dame.

Jeff Clark

Director of Development

About Jeff

Jeff joined the Youth on Course team at the start of 2017 to help manage the philanthropic needs of our rapidly expanding organization. He has worked to support kids through educational fundraising for the past 20 years at Knox College in Illinois, Cincinnati Country Day School in Ohio, and Stevenson School in Pebble Beach, CA.

Jeff will work with individuals, foundations, and corporations to grow Youth on Course’s donor base, increase event revenue, and develop relationships with potential donors and partners who are interested in making substantial philanthropic commitments to the organization.

Jeff was born and raised on a working family farm in central Illinois and earned his BA in Psychology from Knox College in Galesburg, IL.

Adam Schafer

Development Manager

About Adam

Adam joined Youth on Course in 2018 and is excited to get back to his roots in golf working as part of the Development team to support our core purpose of providing youth access to life-changing opportunities.

Adam grew up playing golf with family and took his clubs all over—from Texas to Idaho, Florida for college, Spain for a Fulbright Grant, and most recently New York City—before landing on the Monterey Peninsula. He earned his BA in History and Spanish from New College of Florida and his MA in Nonprofit Management from CUNY-Baruch College. Previously, Adam was the Programs Director for Fencers Club in NYC, the oldest and most successful Olympic fencing club in the country.

Adam now works closely with Jeff to manage all fundraising initiatives that support Youth on Course programs, expansion and more. When not at work or on the course, Adam enjoys cycling, fencing, classic cars, and being outdoors in beautiful Northern California.

Michael Lowe

Program Director

About Michael

Michael has more than 10 years of experience working with youth in public education and nonprofit youth development. He previously worked for Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco in Hunters Point and Treasure Island before joining the Youth on Course team in 2012 as the Programs Director.

At Youth on Course, Michael is the “boots on the ground.” He works with courses, interns, caddies, golf instructors, and youth to make the program everything that our participating members experience. Michael is a true champion for our members and is always willing to go the extra mile for deserving youth.

Michael attended San Diego State University, earning a BA in Liberal Studies, a multiple subject teaching credential, and an MA in Education.

Hugh Smith, Jr.

Director of Program Development and Evaluation

About Hugh

Hugh joined the Youth on Course team in 2018. He has nearly 20 years of golf administration and foundation experience working for the USGA, Met Golf Association in NY, served as ED of The First Tee of Phoenix and most recently Director of Regional Affairs of the Pacific Region for The First Tee.

Hugh is a Monterey Peninsula native growing up in Seaside. He was introduced to the game by his father who picked it up while on active duty at Ft Ord. Hugh achieved the rank of Eagle Scout like many in his family and was also fortunate to serve as a caddie at Pebble Beach while on the Monterey High Golf Team.

Hugh attended Jackson State University in Mississippi where he graduated with degrees in Finance and Management, the highest GPA of any student-athlete, won the National Minority College Golf Championship and was part of the team which was the first HBCU to ever make it to NCAAs.

Hugh is most excited about being part of the YOC Team and truly making the game more affordable and accessible.

Devin Meheen

Program Manager

About Devin

Devin is a Monterey Peninsula native. He earned a BA in Business Administration from Cal State San Bernardino, and became a Class A PGA golf professional and a member of the Club Managers Association of America.

Devin has focused the last 15 years, and much of his energy, on youth sports. He served as an Assistant Football Coach and President of Carmel Youth Baseball. Devin also served on the Bike Coalition for the Transportation Agency of Monterey County to help encourage awareness and safer passages to schools in Carmel, CA.

Devin joined the team in 2017 and is thrilled to be connected again to golf, paired with his passion and love of youth sports. Devin works closely with Michael reaching out to courses and helping with the expansion of Youth on Course.

Kaitlyn Petrando

Marketing Manager

About Kaitlyn

Kaitlyn came onboard with Youth on Course in 2016 with the prestigious P.J. Boatwright internship program and later joined the team full time.

Kaitlyn attended TCU, where she interned year-round in the Athletics Marketing department during game days. After graduation, Kaitlyn took a position as an accounts manager for a college apparel company in Fort Worth, TX. She then went on to work at ESPN as an events assistant where she helped market and execute college football bowl games.

Shelley Cain

Marketing and Administrative Coordinator

About Shelley

Shelley is the newest member of the Youth on Course team. She comes to us from Detroit, MI and though she loves west coast living, she is very proud to come from the Great Lakes State.

Growing up, sports were a huge part of Shelley's life. She played 3 varsity sports in high school, including golf, and learned so many valuable life skills through her experiences as a student-athlete. She went on to play tennis at the collegiate level at Albion College in Albion, Michigan, where she led the team to 2 MIAA Championship titles and earned a bachelor's degree in Mass Communication and Business. She also coached youth tennis for 7 years in Southeast Michigan and loved watching young players not only develop their games, but grow as individuals as well.

Shelley has a background in both marketing and graphic design, and is looking forward to contributing her creative skills to an organization dedicated to creating opportunities for youth in sports.

Grant Gaudette

Chief Technology Officer

About Grant

Grant joined the Youth on Course team in 2018 to help with the technology needs of our rapidly growing national organization.

Grant works closely with our team and our partners. Let's face it, he does all of the "behind the scenes stuff" to make sure each system is sustainable and effective so that Youth on Course can continue to reach more states and members, all while making sure we have the analytics we need to make an impact.

Grant attended UC Santa Barbara, where he enjoyed the ability to study Computer Science and Sports Management while working for the university's recreational sports program and at Sandpiper Golf Course. Grant co-founded a healthcare software company after college but is now very excited to blend his two passions of golf and technology in his role at Youth on Course.

When he's not building new software solutions, you can find him with his wife and kids or out on the golf course.

About Jean

Jean has been crunching numbers with Youth on Course since the start. She's seen Youth on Course grow from one member into today's thousands.

Jean has been practicing accounting since 1987. She joined the NCGA in 1997 and eventually took on the duties for the Youth on Course team.

Jean enjoys the game of golf and its challenges. After suffering from an elbow injury she's ready to get back in the game with her husband and son.
